'Sherlock' Season 3: Holmes and Watson gay bar scene cut from 'The Sign of Three'
But, as it turns out, at least one scene was missing from the drunken montage: "Sherlock" also visited a gay bar.
The news of the deleted scene came up at a "Meet the Filmmakers" Apple Store event which marked the debut of "Sherlock" Season 3 on iTunes. Those attending the event were quick to note an amusing tale from the actors and producers on stage.
"I regret there was one bit of that drunk stuff that was missing. There was a gay club scene," Martin Freeman says, according to Radiotimes.com. "We were absolutely mullered in the gay club -- lots of topless men going past, and us just going, 'Why are we here?'"
"I [Sherlock] had no idea as to why they didn't have their clothes on," Benedict Cumberbatch adds. "And then it dawned and my grounding shook."
It sounds incredible, so why did this scene not make the final edit? According to co-creator Steven Moffat, the issue was one of time. "The first cut of that drunk scene was interminable," Moffat explains. "It went on and on and on. You'd have been hunting me down if we'd put it all in."
Maybe the scene will appear in the DVD extras for "Sherlock" Season 3? Fans can only hope.
