How much would you pay for Benedict Cumberbatch in a magazine? What if it were a free magazine handed out to every paying passenger on a British Airways flight?

Apparently, some people would pay a lot of money to see the "Sherlock" star on the glossy pages of the airline's "High Life" in-flight magazine. An auction ending Wednesday (April 9) on eBay attracted the attention of Cumberbatch's fans, pushing the price of the periodical to rather incredible prices.

About an hour before the auction was due to end, the winning bid stood at more than $70 US.

What's the fuss about? The April 2014 edition of "High Life" features a cover story on Cumberbatch, showing him out on the ice in the snowy landscape of Finland. With nice photos, it certainly works as a collector's item -- although perhaps not one worth quite so much.

But isn't that what fans are for?
