"Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch is reportedly being cast as Billy Bulger in Johnny Depp's crime film based on the life of mobster, Whitey Bulger. If the deal is confirmed, Cumberbatch will replace Guy Pearce in the role.

Based on the book "Black Mass: Whitey Bulger, the FBI and a Devil's Deal," the film is set to star Depp as the famous crime boss. Cumberbatch would play his politician brother, a longtime member of Massachusetts state government and a man who claimed to know nothing about Whitey Bulger's criminal activities.

Adam Scott, Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson, Juno Temple and Jesse Plemons are also cast in the film that is now shooting in Boston. Scott Cooper is directing the movie for Warner Bros. and Cross Creek Pictures. There is no release date yet.
