'Shutter Island': Another reason to stay on the mainland

Shutter-Island-Leonardo-DiCaprio-320.jpgLeonardo DiCaprio's new film, " Shutter Island" opens in theatres today (Fri. Feb. 19) and it serves as another pop culture caveat that islands, at least in film and television, are not always fun and sun.

The supernatural thriller takes place at a prison on a remote island. As if that wasn't scary enough, the prison is also a hospital for the criminally insane. Eek. U.S. Marshalls Teddy Williams (DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (played by Mark Ruffalo) are called in to investigate the seemingly impossible escape by a crazy female inmate from a locked room. As if that wasn't scary enough, she's also a convicted murderer. Double eek. From there, it just gets creepier.

Critics are calling this director Martin Scorsese's first real "horror film." If you thought " Cape Fear" was frightening, we're thinking things can get insane with Scorsese taking his skills offshore to "Shutter Island."

He wouldn't be the first.
