Sigourney Weaver is a 'Political Animal,' Fred Savage to direct Martin Lawrence comedy pilot

Set in Washington D.C., "Animals" centers on Elaine Barrish (Weaver), the divorced former First Lady and new Secretary of State. James Wolk ("Lone Star," "Happy Endings") plays her son Doug, a politician who serves as her chief of staff. The show is slated to premiere with a six-episode run in summer 2012. [ Deadline]

Martin Lawrence's untitled CBS comedy pilot has tapped Fred Savage as its director. Savage, known early on for acting in "The Wonder Years" and "Princess Bride," has become quite the director in recent years, helming episodes of "Happy Endings," "2 Broke Girls" and "Party Down." Savage also currently serves as executive producer for NBC's "Best Friends Forever" comedy. [ Hollywood Reporter]

Jimmy Fallon's NBC pilot "DILFs" keeps lining up stars - Jesse Bradford has been announced as the second of three 30-something male characters who have wives and families yet refuse to grow up. Anthony Anderson was previously announced as the other man-child, with the third yet to be cast. [ Deadline]

"Americana," the ABC pilot about iconic fashion designer Robert Soulter ( Anthony LaPaglia) has cast David Alpay ("The Tudors") as the oldest son of said designer who has recently been made co-president of his fashion label. ABC has also added a face to "Devious Maids" - Brianna Brown, who will play one of the rich employers. [ Deadline]

"Matrix" star Carrie-Anne Moss has been cast as the female lead opposite Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis in the untitled CBS drama written by "Goodfellas" scribe Nicholas Pileggi and Greg Walker. Quaid is the sheriff in 1960s Las Vegas, Chiklis is a mob figure and Moss will play Assistant District Attorney Katherine O'Connell. [ Deadline]
