'Silver Linings Playbook,' 'Modern Family' lead SAG Awards nominations
The nominees for the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards are in, and there are no major surprises in the list of actors nominated. On the movies side, "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Lincoln" each scored four noms apiece, while "Modern Family" walked away with four as well for TV.
"Silver Linings Playbook" was recognized for Best Cast, Bradley Cooper as Best Actor, Jennifer Lawrence as Best Actress and Robert De Niro as Best Supporting Actor. Similarly, "Lincoln" got nominated for Best Cast, Daniel Day-Lewis as Best Actor, Tommy Lee Jones as Best Supporting Actor and Sally Field as Best Supporting Actress.
After them, "Les Miserables" scored three nods including a Best Actor for Hugh Jackman and Best Supporting Actress for Anne Hathaway. The movie also earned a stunt ensemble nomination. "Argo," "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" and "The Sessions" each got two noms apiece. Interestingly enough, "Zero Dark Thirty" was only recognized for Jessica Chastain's performance, and Javier Bardem got a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his work in "Skyfall."
For TV, it was exciting to see actors like Louis C.K. and Amy Poehler finally get the recognition they deserve. Both were nominated in Best Actor categories for the first time, despite "Louie" and "Parks and Recreation" having aired for several seasons.
Following "Modern Family's" four nominations, "Downton Abbey," "Game Change," ""Homeland" and "30 Rock" each had three. "Boardwalk Empire" and "Breaking Bad" surprised with only two apiece, plus an additional nomination for stunt ensembles, while "Big Bang Theory," "Hatfields & McCoys," "Hemingway & Gellhorn," "Mad Men" and "Nurse Jackie" all received two as well.
Of all those nominations, several actors were recognized for their work in both TV and film. Maggie Smith scored four nods in total: Best Supporting Actress and Best Motion Picture Cast for "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," and Best Actress in a Drama and Best Ensemble Drama for "Downton Abbey." Bryan Cranston got three: Best Actor in a Drama and Best Ensemble Drama for "Breaking Bad," and Best Ensemble Cast for "Argo." Nicole Kidman and Penelope Wilton also received nominations for their contributions to both entertainment fields.
