With "The X Factor UK" ratings on a steady decline, it's being reported that ITV wants Simon Cowell to return as judge for the reality competition. His three-year contract with ITV for "Britain's Got Talent" and "The X Factor UK" expires at the end of 2013, and reports say that ITV wants Cowell to switch to judging "The X Factor" to bolster its viewership.

The Guardian spoke to Cowell's spokesperson, who says ITV wants to keep him on board for both programs. He stopped judging "The X Factor UK" to focus on "X Factor USA."

"Obviously, everybody to do with the show wants Simon because he gives it an extra quality, we understand that, but with his commitments over there he simply can't be in two places at once," the spokesperson says.

So what if Cowell doesn't decide to return to "The X Factor UK"? According to The Guardian, ITV could consider reduced terms with the show, like a two-year contract.
