"Skyfall," the 23rd movie featuring British secret agent James Bond and third starring Daniel Craig, had the best opening weekend of any film in the series. It dominated the weekend box office, making a huge $87.8 million, according to studio estimates.

The North American box office pushes "Skyfall's" worldwide total past $500 million. It's been playing overseas for the past two weeks.

"Skyfall" was the only new wide release of the weekend, but Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" did very well in its limited opening. The movie made an estimated $900,000 in just 11 theaters for a gaudy per-theater average of almost $82,000.

Last weekend's Top 3 movies -- "Wreck-It Ralph," "Flight" and "Argo" -- all got pushed down one spot by "Skyfall." All three films held up pretty well, each dropping by less than 40 percent from last week's earnings.

The weekend's Top 10 movies:

1. "Skyfall," $87.8 million
2. "Wreck-It Ralph," $33.1 million
3. "Flight," $15.1 million
4. "Argo," $6.75 million
5. "Taken 2," $4 million

7. "Cloud Atlas," $2.53 million
8. "Pitch Perfect," 2.5 million
