'Smash' Season 2: Daniel Sunjata to play Debra Messing's love interest

smash-season-2-pics-daniel-sunjata-gi.jpgAt the end of "Smash" Season 1, it may have seemed like Debra Messing's character Julia and her husband, Frank ( Brian D'Arcy James), had the potential to patch things up after her affair with Michael ( Will Chase), but since both James and Chase are out for Season 2, Julia needs a new love interest. Enter Daniel Sunjata, who EW reports will be coming on board for the NBC musical drama to fill the hole in Julia's heart.

Sunjata is known for his appearances on FX's "Rescue Me" and ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," and he also had a role in this summer's "The Dark Knight Rises."

He'll join other "Smash" newbies Krysta Rodriguez, who will play Karen's ( Katharine McPhee) new roommate, and Jennifer Hudson, playing a Broadway star.

Season 2 of "Smash" premieres midseason under new showrunner Josh Safran.
