Smashing Pumpkins bassist Nicole Fiorentino on 'Siamese Dream' cover?
Billy Corgan, lead singer and guitarist for the Smashing Pumpkins, tweeted last week, " Just found out the weirdest news: our bass player Nicole just admitted she is one of the girls on the cover of Siamese Dream" and " She said she didn't want us to know because she thought maybe we wouldn't let her be in the band."
Um, are you kidding Nicole?! That's like the coolest thing ever. But we have to wonder where they got the photograph, because Nicole is 31, born in 1979, and "Siamese Dream" came out in 1993. An assistant to the cover photographer tells Rolling Stone he's pretty sure the cover was shot just for the album.
Nicole Fiorentino joined Smashing Pumpkins in 2010, replacing Mark Tulin, who was the temporary replacement for former bassist Ginger Pooley. She is Pumpkins fourth bassist, third since they got back together. She formerly played with Spinnerette and Veruca Salt.
What an interesting piece of information. We'll keep you updated if we hear more about where the photograph came from. Is this all an elaborate Twitter prank from Corgan? Probably. Even Fiorentino herself retweeted the Rolling Stone piece, which would support the theory that Corgan noticed her resemblance to the girls and decided to have a little fun with the fans.
What do you guys think?
