'Snow White and the Huntsman' director Rupert Sanders to helm 'The Juliet' next

Rupert Sanders seems as though he's taking a break from the "Snow White and the Huntsman" world for a while. As Universal Pictures is still trying to figure out what to do with the sequel to that project in the wake of Sanders' cheating scandal with star Kristen Stewart, the director has reportedly moved on to a new movie called "The Juliet."

Deadline has confirmed that Sanders will next be helming the sci-fi film for Sony Pictures and New Regency, and that the plan is to get that movie filming in the spring. Based on the Alfred Bester short story and adapted by Henry Bean, "The Juliet" takes place in a "near futuristic science fiction landscape."

Though Sanders made his big Hollywood debut with "Snow White's" fantastical story, this project seems to be more up his alley. Sanders got his start directing commercials, including some truly incredibly ads for science fiction video games "Halo 3" and "Halo 3: ODST." It's clear that this is a genre he feels comfortable in, and it will be interesting to see what he can do with the material now that he has a movie-sized budget.

This makes Sanders' relationship with the planned "Snow White and the Huntsman 2" uncertain. Universal will be hard-pressed to have both Sanders and Stewart involved in the sequel, so this news makes it seem like Sanders might be off the project for good. It had also been speculated by The Hollywood Reporter that the sequel could focus on The Huntsman instead of Snow White and thus Stewart would not return instead of Sanders. It will be interesting to see how that bit of Hollywood drama ends up panning out.
