'Sons of Anarchy' brings back Jimmy Smits for Season 6
A day after it was (re) confirmed that Donal Logue is returning to the FX series for Season 6 comes news that Jimmy Smits has signed on as well. He'll appear in all 13 episodes of the coming season as Nero, a gang member-turned-brothel owner and businessman who became entwined with SAMCRO, especially Gemma ( Katey Sagal) and Jax ( Charlie Hunnam), last season.
"Jimmy adds such a gravitas to the show," "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter said following the Season 5 finale. "I love bringing that new culture into the show, his sort of Latino past and that energy. Mixing that into our world is really fascinating to me. I love the relationships going on with he and Gemma. I would love to bring Jimmy back. We left it sort of open-ended because I wasn't sure of his availability. I feel like there's enough emotional weight on the table ... for us to continue that story line, yet I was careful not to pin any major story arc to his character just in case that couldn't happen."
Season 6 of "Sons of Anarchy" likely won't begin filming until the summer, assuming its usual September premiere date. Season 5 ended with Jax having consolidated his power within the club but with his personal life in shambles following Tara's ( Maggie Siff) arrest on a charge of accessory to murder.
