The upcoming "The Walking Dead" companion series has landed Dave Erickson as a co-writer and executive producer. Erickson comes to the spinoff from AMC's "Low Winter Sun," which was canceled in December.

Before that he served as co-executive producer and writer on several episodes of FX's "Sons of Anarchy" between 2008 and 2011. Erickson's other big credit was on the short-lived "Cantebury's Law."

Back in January, AMC chief Charlie Collier said the network was taking their time in developing the companion series, noting they wanted to "do it right." The primary goal is to make sure whatever they come up with doesn't diminish "The Walking Dead."

"What we want to do is find something that everyone involved feels as passionately about as being a unique vehicle and unique enterprise as compared to the original series," he said.
