The series will return in February 2013 for a 10-episode run, the cable channel says. The show's producers had been pushing for a 13-episode season in renewal negotiations, but the final deal settled on 10 hours, the same as the past two seasons.

"We are very proud of 'Southland' and grateful to everyone involved in the series, including executive producers John Wells, Chris Chulack and Jonathan Lisco; creator Ann Biderman; and our partners at Warner Bros. Television," says Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TNT. "We look forward to going deeper into the lives of 'Southland's' extraordinary characters and the streets they struggle to keep safe next year."

Season 4 of the series about L.A. cops averaged 2.9 million viewers, and its ratings among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 improved a little bit. Stars Ben McKenzie, Regina King, Michael Cudlitz and Shawn Hatosy are expected to return.
