The "Spider-Man" reboot directed by Marc Webb will be released in 3-D on July 3, 2012, Sony announced Wednesday, Feb. 10

"'Spider-Man' is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we're thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3-D," says Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing & Distribution. "Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc's fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise."

The proposed reboot of the franchise will be based on a screenplay by James Vanderbilt.

As a reboot would imply, the Spider-Man story will be rewound, this time to focus on Peter Parker during his high school years. As previously reported, Logan Lerman, who stars in "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief," is one of the candidates who's been in talks to play Peter Parker.

We think "Spider-Man" in 3-D is a natural fit with all the action that takes place. We just wish we didn't have to wear those goofy glasses. Maybe they can redesign them spidey-style.
