St. Louis Cardinals win World Series, David Freese named MVP

cardinals-win-world-series-2011.jpgThe St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series Friday night (Oct. 28) in considerably less dramatic fashion than the way they tied it on Thursday.

The Cards beat the Texas Rangers, 6-2, in Game 7 to win the 2011 World Series four games to three. Third baseman David Freese, who won Game 6 with a walk-off home run and had a two-run double in the first inning of Game 7, was named most valuable player of the series.

For casual fans without a rooting interest, Game 7 felt a little anti-climactic after Thursday's epic Game 6, in which the Cardinals came back from two-run deficits in the ninth and 10th inning before Freese's game-winning homer. The Cardinals took the lead in the third inning Friday and added runs in the fifth and seventh innings to close out the Rangers, who also lost in the World Series last year.

We're pretty sure fans in St. Louis couldn't care less about the lack of late-inning drama, though. Congratulations to the Cards on the 11th World Series title in their history.
