'Star Trek' captain Kate Mulgrew feels 'Mercy'

The former "Star Trek: Voyager" captain has joined the cast of the fall nursing drama "Mercy," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mulgrew will play Jeannie Flanagan, the mother of lead nurse Veronica ( Taylor Schilling).

Mulgrew is best known for playing Captain Kathryn Janeway on "Star Trek: Voyager," which ran for seven seasons.

Other casting news:

 - Mido Hamada has landed the recurring role on "24" as Mehran, a leader of a group of operatives in an Islamic country working against their president

 - Matthew Levy will play the oldest of three brothers who hires a hustler (Tyler Labine) as their fake father while their real one is in prison on "Sons of Tucson."

 - Joshua Leonard will play Ricky, the "boho-trustifarian" in a recurring role for Showtime's "United States of Tara" second season.
