Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart react to 'Late Show' news on 'The Daily Show' and 'Colbert Report'
Neither host disappointed. During their Thursday (April 10) shows, both hosts talked about the news in their own special ways.
"The Daily Show" got to go first, thanks to the realities of schedule. Stewart addressed Colbert's new job first thing in the broadcast -- even before mocking sports and politics. "You may remember a few years ago, there was a gentleman on this show called Stephen Colbert," Stewart began, adding, "I no longer need a cable subscription for the privilege of watching Stephen Colbert."
Stewart expressed how clearly happy he was for Colbert getting this opportunity. "I think Stephen Colbert is up for the challenge," he said after showing clips of the former "Daily Show" correspondent cracking up. "There is no greater joy than seeing a genuinely good man who works hard all day get the success he deserves."
As for Colbert himself, the host took a slightly different approach to his own coming replacement of Letterman. At no point did Colbert mention that he was CBS' choice -- Colbert only talked about what a great late-night host Letterman has been and how replacing him would be a challenge. "'Late Night' debuted my first year in college. I learned more from Dave than going to my classes. Especially the ones I did not go to because I stayed up til 1:30 watching Dave," Colbert joked. "I do not envy whoever they try to put in that chair!"
This is going to be a fun ride from basic cable to network, isn't it?
