Stephen Colbert kicked off Christmas carol week on "The Colbert Report" by joining Gregg Allman and The National for a rendition of "Silver Bells."
The performance is far more traditional than The National's ode to Thanksgiving, and a nice introduction to the week. Still, Colbert can't resist having a little fun with his spoken-word interlude, which goes, "Darling, you are the cow of my every field. The sad song of a tree full of silent birds. A tight hand held, you hold my heart. It beats its heart and warms your hand I hold." Good luck figuring that out.
Hopefully the rest of Christmas carol week lives up to this performance.
