Steve Martin recently welcomed a baby daughter into his life, and it's been a happy change for the comedian. He recently dropped by "Late Show with David Letterman" and showed what a "responsible" dad he is by bringing along a baby monitor.

Of course, when he turned on the monitor it was actually just a joke. When he and Letterman stopped laughing at that stunt, Martin opened up about what's made the baby experience so positive: his wife Anne Stringfield.

"It's going great first of all because I have a wonderful wife and mother," Martin says in the above clip. When that causes Letterman to laugh, he adds, "I'm paying her a compliment -- everything is funny when I try to be serious, but I guess that's good. It's the nature of my business."

As for what the newborn's name is, Martin quips. "We've thought about the name quite a bit. Conquistador. What do you think? I didn't want to go with one of those Hollywood you know where they have those weird names. ... 'Conquistador' says it's a statement."
