Steven Tyler's national anthem: How'd he do?
For the AFC championship game between the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens Sunday afternoon (Jan. 22), "American Idol" judge and rocker Steven Tyler took the microphone to belt out "The Star-Spangled Banner." How do you think he did?
What do you think the "American Idol" judges would say about this rendition? We feel like Simon Cowell would call it "rather ghastly" and Randy would probably tell him he's "pitchy."
Reviews are pretty harsh around the interwebs. ESPN's Skip Bayless tweets, "How could Patriots be inspired by that awful anthem sung by Steven Tyler? At least give him some screaming guitars to camouflage voice."
FOX Sports' Jason Whitlock pulls no punches with his tweet, "Steven Tyler far more obscene than Janet Jackson's t****."
And Fox News' Greg Gutfield says, "i went outside to put a raccoon out of its misery - then i realized my neighbor was watching Steven Tyler sing the Star-Spangled Banner."
We don't think it's the prettiest rendition we've ever heard, but maybe he gets a pass because he's a rocker? Hmm. Frankly, we're surprised he did the national anthem for CBS and not FOX, since the NFC championship game was on FOX, followed by a new "American Idol."
Speaking of "Idol" and the national anthem -- Kelly Clarkson is doing this year's Super Bowl, on Feb. 5. We think that one should be pretty great.
