'Suburgatory' Season 3 cast shakeup: Alan Tudyk, Rex Lee leaving Chatswin

Deadline reports that due to budget cuts that came with the renewal, the contracts for both actors were not extended. Tudyk played narcissistic dentist Noah Werner, who was best friends with George Altman ( Jeremy Sisto), while Lee played Mr. Wolfe, the guidance counselor at the high school attended by Tessa Altman ( Jane Levy).

"Suburgatory" has an unusually large ensemble cast for a comedy series, and Deadline hints more actors could be let go or reduced to recurring. Besides Sisto and Levy, remaining cast members include Cheryl Hines, Ana Gasteyer, Chris Parnell, Carly Chaikin and Allie Grant.

While Tudyk has played a significant role in several of the show's storylines, Lee's character was more a minor figure whose presence isn't likely to be missed by fans. The show arguably suffered a bigger loss when recurring actor Parker Young (who plays Ryan Shay) took a role in FOX pilot "Enlisted," which was picked up to series for next season.

After averaging 7.58 million viewers and a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demo for Season 1, "Suburgatory" slipped to an average of 6 million viewers and a 2.1 in 18-49 for Season 2 -- despite spending part of the season following ABC's comedy hit "Modern Family."
