Super Bowl 2013: Alicia Keys' National Anthem gives a bluesy twist to Star-Spangled Banner

alicia-keys-national-anthem-super-bowl-xlvii.jpgR&B songstress Alicia Keys was the singer tapped for the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLVII. How do you think she did?

First off, we loved the piano. Sure, soaring versions of the Star-Spangled Banner (think Whitney Houston in 1991 or Christina Aguilera in 2011), but Keys isn't a soaring-version kind of girl. So we love that she didn't try to be something she's not and played the piano along with her vocals.

Secondly, she did it live (which we gotta say, we think is cooler than lip syncing) and it sounded great. The only part we weren't in love with was the riff at the end. Instead of ending the song where it normally ends, she added a bluesy tag that we didn't actually like that much. It wasn't bad, just not our cup of tea. Video below.

What did you think, sports fans? How did Alicia Keys stack up?
