'Supernatural' Season 9 casts Tahmoh Penikett as angel Ezekiel
The angels on "Supernatural" were in for a rude awakening during the final moments of Season 8, when Castiel was tricked by Metatron to close the gates of Heaven, causing all the angels to fall to earth. When Season 9 picks up this fall, we'll finally get to the see the consequences of that major event, including one of those angels who might not be too happy with Castiel's actions.
"Supernatural" just cast Tahmoh Penikett to guest star as Ezekiel, an angel who executive producer Jeremy Carver describes as "a dignified warrior angel injured in the Fall."
"The early parts of Season 9 will very much be dealing with the fallout from the finale and the ramifications," Carver tells Zap2it. "We'll see all kinds of angels -- angels we never expected to see, angels no angels ever expected to see. And the angels won't be one monolithic thing. There are types of different angels, and some are very power-driven."
Will Ezekiel have a bone to pick with Cas for shutting him out of heaven -- resulting in him being injured -- or will he enjoy life on earth? "We'll see all the different angels responding to life on earth in different ways," Carver says. "And if any of them are happy with being on earth, that will be in the eye of the beholder. For an angel, happy may not be the same as your idea of happy."
Penikett is best known for playing Paul Ballard on Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" and Captain Karl "Helo" Agathon on "Battlestar Galactica." He will first appear in the "Supernatural" Season 9 premiere, which airs on Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
