Susan Sarandon joins protesters on Wall Street: 'I'm here to understand what's going on'
The protesters are demonstrating against financial firms to try to get President Obama to end "the influence money has over our representatives in Washington." They have marched through the financial district, marking the New York Stock Exchange's opening and closing bells, every day.
"I'm here to understand what's going on and to lend my support," Sarandon tells BusinessWeek. "There's a lot of different kinds of people here who want to shift the paradigm to something that's addressing the huge gap between the rich and the poor."
The display of civil disobedience has resulted in about 100 arrests thus far, and police officers have resorted to using pepper spray to "obviate" the use of physical force with batons according to an NYPD spokesperson.
