'SYTYCD' Nigel Lythgoe talks Adechike, 'American Idol'
"So You Think You Can Dance" determined its Top 3 dancers Thursday (Aug. 5), leaving Adechike Torbert to finish in a bittersweet fourth place.
Judge Nigel Lythgoe puts the loss into perspective, however, pointing out it's fourth place out of the thousands who tried out this year.
"I hope he's proud of himself," Lythgoe says in an interview backstage. "He did nothing wrong. At the end of the day, America said, 'We want these three.'"
Lythgoe also reveals that in the finale, they'll re-create the Alex Wong-tWitch hip-hop routine, which is arguably the biggest highlight of the season, made more poignantly so a week later when Wong was struck from the competition due to an Achilles injury. Lythgoe himself will also be doing a tap routine in the finale.
He also discusses "American Idol" and why he prefers having only three judges on the panel as opposed to four.

In the end, though, it's all about the Top 3: Lauren Froderman, Kent Boyd and Robert Roldan.
Although Froderman and Boyd have been favorites from the beginning, Roldan has had a rocky time, landing in the bottom multiple times. Torbert has also had an inconsistent run on the show, getting criticized for not opening up or loosening up enough.
Torbert discusses how he's changed over the course of the competition, his final solo and what he plans on doing next:
