'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles': The Shredder is deadlier than ever in new pic

One of the more interesting aspects to follow of the new "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie has been what's happening to their chief nemesis, The Shredder. Unlike what had traditionally been the case in the franchise, Shredder will this time be an American character (William Fichtner).

Though not much has been seen, a new still from the movie gives an idea of just how big and menacing the character will be. In the image, Splinter can be seen in the foreground with Shredder towering over him, covered in blades. The swords hanging off his arms are a nice touch. However, something that's interesting are the differences between what has been shown off so far and this image.

It seems like this could possibly be an upgraded version of Shredder's standard armor. Thanks to quick glimpses in the teaser trailer and the action figure design, fans have a decent idea of what the character will look like and it's not exactly what's shown in this photo.

The biggest difference is the missing razor cape that he should be wearing. Additionally, this suit looks a bit bulkier than might be expected. Naturally, that could be due to how the shot is lit. Regardless of whether this is Shredder's normal armor or not, one thing is clear: The turtles are in serious trouble.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is in theaters Aug. 8.
