Turtle power is alive and well, following the release of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" in theaters on Aug. 8. The reboot, based on a comic book, multiple cartoon series and several movies, landed at the top of the box office with an estimated $65 million.
Based on that success, Paramount has already announced a sequel is on the way. The next film in the series will hit theaters in 2016, with producer Michael Bay and writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec returning.
The announcement from Paramount makes no mention of whether director Jonathan Liebesman is coming back. Previously, the filmmakers told Zap2it about some ideas they had for a possible sequel, including Casey Jones and Krang. Now it's only a matter of time before the world will find out if those ideas will become a reality.
