With filming underway on the Michael Bay-produced reboot of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise, the cast can finally give some insight to the production. Alan Ritchson, who plays Raphael in the movie, spoke to THR on the MTV Movie Awards red carpet.
"We're running around Manhattan, me and Megan Fox, her looking wonderful and me looking like some kind of ant with cameras all over my face," Ritchson says of the hybrid live-action/CGI production. While Fox, as April O'Neil, will appear as herself, the Turtles are being motion-captured. "There's just a lot of technology involved. So there are kinks to work out."
Fans of the franchise were angry after Bay revealed that the origin story for the turtles was going to drastically change, with the main characters having an alien origin. With the delay in production, there's no word on if the script was changed. "The frustrating thing for me since I've signed on is that you hear that it's already got a reputation," Alan says, "I think people assume they know what it's going to be about, and those people are wrong. The assumptions, everything you read online is wrong." He adds, "You want to tell everybody how great it is, and you can't really say why, but it is."
As for the training he had to do to prepare for the role, it sounds pretty rough. Ritchson explains, "We're learning a lot of the fight choreography. We've got these unbelievable stunt trainers that work us every day to the bone. It's been a great process."
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" will be in theaters June 6, 2014. Ritchson can next be seen in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."
