Terrence Howard joins Fox series 'Wayward Pines' as Sheriff Pope

Terrence Howard is heading back to TV. 

"The Butler" star just landed a series regular role in Fox's upcoming series "Wayward Pines," TVLine reports. 

The M. Night Shyamalan-produced event series is based on the best-selling novel of the same name, and is described as a "mind-bending" thriller set in a small town where nothing is what it seems. 

Howard will play Sheriff Pope, an old school lawman who takes offense when a bossy Secret Service agent (Matt Dillon) shows up on his turf in search of two missing colleagues.

Howard joins the already star-studded cast, which includes Carla Gugino, Toby Jones and Melissa Leo

"Wayward Pines" is currently set to premiere on Fox in 2014.
