'The Amazing Spider-Man': Emma Stone, Marc Webb talk web-slingers

Emma Stone Spider-Man.jpg"The Amazing Spider-Man" is one of the most anticipated films of the year, both because fans love Spidey and because people want to know if this really is too soon for a reboot. We got a chance to chat with star Emma Stone who plays Gwen Stacy and director Marc Webb about the film at Wondercon 2012 in Anaheim, CA. They couldn't reveal much, butt Webb did tell us that a certain equation from Dr. Connors (Rhys Ifans) might change their world.

We got a little tease about Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) relationship to Gwen Stacy's father (Denis Leary). "It's an interesting dynamic between Peter and Gwen's father who is the police chief," says Stone. "In our version of the story, Gwen knows that Peter is Spider-Man. She's his confidant. She's aware that her father is on the task force against Spider-Man and that her boyfriend is, in fact, Spider-Man. It creates a really interesting conflict for her and for Peter. It's funny that she's drawn to a guy who is in the face of death all the time, just like her father, which has been the bane of her existence since she was a child."

Webb tells us about balancing the story he wants to make with what the fans expect. "I think it's really important to honor the iconography of Spider-Man. There very thing that they're attracted to is the thing we're attracted to. So it's not really an exchange there. First and foremost, I'm a fan."

"The Amazing Spider-Man" hits theaters on July 3rd, 2012.
