'The Avengers 2' gets a 2015 release date

avengers-midnight-box-office.jpgCan't wait for the next installment of "The Avengers?" That might be a problem, since "The Avengers 2" now has a release date, and that date is rather far away. Thanks to a whole lot of other movie-making, Marvel Studios will not release the film until May 1, 2015.

Deadline first reported the 2015 release date. "The Avengers 2" will have to wait for at least four other Marvel-property films before the comic-book/movie company is ready to release the sequel. The next Marvel movie, at the moment, is Robert Downey Jr.'s "Iron Man 3," set to be released on May 3, 2013. "Thor: The Dark World" (Nov. 8, 2013) and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" (April 4, 2014) will follow. "Guardians of the Galaxy," a new Marvel property headed to film, is currently planned to reach theaters on Aug. 14, 2014.

Considering that we have yet to see a Black Widow or Hawkeye movie of any kind -- not to mention a Hulk film with Mark Ruffalo -- there's a chance that "Avengers 2" could end up arriving even later.

The only silver lining to any of this for "Avengers" fans may be that Joss Whedon is already attached to write and direct the sequel. With Whedon on board, we at least know "The Avengers 2" is going to be good, whenever it finally arrives.
