'The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose': Nick outs sex with Andi in fantasy suiteAdd to Favorites | The Bachelorette
I need to talk to Chris Harrison
The reunion for "The Bachelorette" kicks off with footage of Nick, rocking a kicky scarf (natch) in Milwaukee, but sadly wandering around a market, which is actually really weird. It's like the show is saying he's so distraught that he can't eat or something. Nick's mom Mary, who seems like a lovely woman, is very sad as well. Sadness all around.
At the "Men Tell All," (which Nick was apparently in attendance at to see Andi) Nick makes an appeal to Chris Harrison about how he needs to talk to Andi, but no dice. Andi doesn't want to see him. Nick gives Chris a letter to give to her.
Nick confronts Andi
Can I just say that I'm so glad they do these live now? It's exciting. Anything can happen! Anyway, Nick tells Harrison that he meant everything he said to Andi and it's heartbreaking to feel like you found the connection he found with her and then have it slip away. Indeed. I've seen a lot of "Let it go, Nick" on Twitter, but honestly? I think the easy way out is to act like everything's fine and you've moved on. I appreciate that he's just like, "Screw dignity, I'm upset. I'm owning my feelings." You go, Nick.
Also to Nick's immense credit -- he says he can't answer the question of whether Andi made a mistake, because that's not for him to say, which is true. That's not his call to make. He also has nothing but nice things to say about Josh, it's very mature of him.
When Andi comes out, Nick is visibly shaking with nerves. Aw, honey. Andi confirms she read his letter ( read the letter here) and then Nick kind of balks at first in asking her questions. You can almost hear Harrison thinking, "We have time to fill, Viall!" and then he prompts, "Do you want to ask her anything?" Hee.
And then since Nick won't ask the tough questions, Harrison puts Andi on the spot to say whether or not she was in love with Nick. 'Atta boy, Harrison. Andi admits no, she wasn't in love with Nick and that's why she didn't say it to him. She says that they had a great relationship and it's just that her relationship with Josh was better, which yeah, that makes sense.
But then things go to a whole other level we have not yet seen on an "After the Final Rose" reunion. Nick straight-up says why did Andi "make love" with him if she wasn't in love with him.
I just ... wow. I have so many thoughts about this. On the one hand, that's an embarrassing thing to bring up to Andi on live national TV. I'm also not down with slut-shaming, but this isn't *exactly* that.
Nick seems to really have put a lot of stock in that experience and while I'm not saying it's either good or bad to sleep with someone you don't love, for some people that is a really important component of that decision and maybe for Nick that wasn't something he does lightly.
Of course, he did sleep with Andi after knowing her for eight weeks while she was dating other dudes. But it seems like that meant something pretty serious to him, so it's a fair question for him to ask her. They could have just spent the night together and *not* had sex. It can be done, I promise you.
Bringing it up on live national TV? Wow. That's not cool. Though maybe he wouldn't have done that if he'd gotten to speak with Andi privately before the "After the Final Rose" reunion.
I also have to say -- Andi says to Nick that if she had been in love with him, she would have said it. It makes me wonder if she told Josh, "I love you" in the fantasy suite, which is the only place she would be "allowed" to, since the cameras are off. If so, that must really sting for Nick -- she says, "I love you" to Josh and then goes and sleeps with Nick? Do you think that happened?
Either way, Andi is visibly angered at what Nick just did. I understand her feelings -- she is monumentally embarrassed. However, she chose to go on a show where she dates multiple guys and then spends the night with up to three of them. We can all be adults about what happens in the fantasy suite, right? Hmm. No matter what your feelings about that segment, it is definitely one of the most jaw-dropping segments this show has ever seen. Harrison must be positively giddy at how that went, especially after the awkwardness of Juan Pablo's "ATFR" reunion.
UDPATE: Nick Viall tells the press he's sorry if he humiliated Andi, while Josh Murray calls what Nick did "classless and disrespectful."
Andi and Josh
They gush about each other and reveal that they've been secretly meeting up in Atlanta since the show wrapped, wearing disguises like wigs and hats. Hee, that's cute. Harrison asks about the wedding and they give the party line of perhaps in the spring, but we'll see. Josh also cracks he's "trying" to get her pregnant. Well, we're just airing Andi's sex life all over the darn place, aren't we?
Also, where are the lie detector results? Harrison told Zap2it that he would bring them up again at the finale. C'mon, Harrison. Instead of revealing what Josh lied about, we have to see grumpy cat? I love me some grumpy cat, but c'mon. Also, Andi totally misses her cue to have a frown-off with grumpy cat. This is dumb.
What did you think of "The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose"?
