According to NBC, the first-year drama's Sept. 30 episode added almost 5.1 million viewers through three days of DVR viewing. That's the biggest three-day lift ever for a broadcast-network show. Assuming that will be about three-fourths of the total DVR gain within a week of the episode's airdate, that could mean a Live +7 gain of more than 6.7 million viewers, which would also be a record for network shows.
Episode 2 of "The Blacklist" also grew by close to 1.7 ratings points among adults 18-49, going from a 3.29 to a 4.95.
In both viewers and adults 18-49, the show's three-day audience for episode 2 (16.4 million viewers, 4.95 demo rating) is only 3 percent behind the premiere (16.9 million, 5.11). The overnight ratings for the show were off about 10 percent week-to-week in viewers and 13 percent in adults 18-49, so DVR use erased most of that deficit.
DVR use has been growing steadily over the past few years, but 2013 is shaping up to be something of a watershed moment for time-shifting. FX's drama "The Bridge" became the first show to draw more adults 18-49 in delayed viewing than in the show's initial airing -- 821,000 of those viewers watched the show the night it aired, and 863,000 did so via DVRs, a gain of 105 percent. That doesn't even count on-demand viewing or the repeat airings on FX during the week.
Last season's DVR champion, "Modern Family," added just under 4.5 million viewers for each new episode in Live +7 ratings, while "Revolution" topped 2012's premiere week by adding 4.9 million people. "The Blacklist," which grew by about 4.4 million people in the three days after its series premiere, is running way ahead of that pace at the moment.
The first set of Live +7 ratings for 2013-14 is due to arrive later this week.
