'The Cape' and Summer Glau meet cute: Preview Sunday's series premiere

the-cape-vs-orwell-320.jpg "The Cape" has its origins in a fairly dark place: Cop Vince Faraday ( David Lyons) is framed for murder, hunted down and presumed killed, all while his wife and son ( Jennifer Ferrin and Ryan Wynott) watch on live TV.

But it's also a show about a guy who fights for justice in a costume -- Vince takes on the persona of his son's favorite comic-book hero, The Cape -- so it's not all doom and gloom. The two clips below, both of which are from Sunday's (Jan. 9) two-hour premiere, have a little bit lighter tone to them.

In the first, Vince has his first face-to-face encounter with Orwell ( Summer Glau), a blogger who has apparently deep pockets and is trying to expose and fight corruption in Palm City. Neither character makes the best first impression, what with the tasers and the chokeholds and everything.

(Oh, and despite the headline on this post, it does not appear that creator Tom Wheeler and Co. are setting up any kind of romantic tension between Lyons and Glau. Vince is still very much in love with his wife.)

In the second clip, Vince foils a robbery and receives the gratitude of the store owner. Still, the guy doesn't think much of Vince's alter ego.

"The Cape" premieres at 9 p.m. ET Sunday on NBC and moves to its regular timeslot at 9 p.m. Monday. Watch the clips:
