'The Closer's' Kyra Sedgwick on Emmy win, loves 'Modern Family,' 'Dexter'
Instead -- Sedgwick talks with us about her Emmy win for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, which came on her fifth nomination in a row for her work on "The Closer."
"I was totally surprised, it was a total shock," she tells us. "I don't think anyone expected it, least of all me. It was a wonderful gift."
"It's something that, of course, you want, but I stopped even letting myself really want it because I thought it was never gonna happen," she laughs. "I didn't think I'd ever win and I certainly didn't think I'd win this year, looking at the field. I placated myself with the fact that Martin Sheen never won for 'The West Wing' -- there are all these great people who never won, so it's okay if I don't win."
"The Closer" is appointment viewing for approximately 7 million people every week on TNT -- but what is appointment viewing for Sedgwick?
"I love 'Modern Family.' I'm totally in love with that show," she laughs, and then pauses. "I still love 'Dexter.' I've been watching 'Boardwalk Empire,' which I love aesthetically and I love the story too. And I love 'Nurse Jackie.' That's absolutely appointment viewing for me. [Edie Falco] is great, the whole cast is great. I love that show."
"The Closer" returns to TNT on Monday, Dec. 6.
