'The Colbert Report' confuses Vladimir Putin with 'Game of Thrones' Daenerys Targaryen

What happens when you flip between Fox News and "Game of Thrones"? You get about as uninformed an opinion on the Ukraine situation as Stephen Colbert.

On "The Colbert Report," the comedian "mistakes" Vladimir Putin's quest for that of Daenerys Targaryen, down to Putin apparently having dragons. "It's believable," Colbert quips.

Though the opening bit turns to criticizing Americans' inability to find Ukraine on a map (and the fact that not knowing where Ukraine is makes people more likely to want the U.S. to intervene), maybe Colbert has a point comparing Dany to Putin.

After all, she's been a conquerer and not a ruler thus far, and Kit Harington tells Zap2it of Season 4, "Dany goes very dark, and all the goodness in her starts turning quite dark." That sounds about as foreboding as things come.

"Game of Thrones" airs Sundays on HBO at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
