'The Comeback' comes back: HBO confirms 6-episode orderAdd to Favorites | The Comeback
The six-episode order will pick up with Valerie Cherish (Lisa Kudrow) a decade after her attempt at rejuvenating her career via reality TV and a new sitcom went crashingly wrong. That's also about as long as "The Comeback" has been absent from HBO, which initially canceled it after one season in 2005.
There's not much in the way of story revealed in HBO's announcement. "'B level' TV star Valerie Cherish was a pioneer of reality television. Now, it's ten years later -- there's more TV than ever and she wants back in," the release says. "Valerie thinks she has it all figured out this time. She doesn't."
Kudrow and co-creator Michael Patrick King will write the new season along with Amy B. Harris ("The Carrie Diaries") and John Riggi ("30 Rock"), who also worked on the first season. Returning cast members include Laura Silverman as the producer of Valerie's reality show, Damian Young as Valerie's husband, Lance Barber as sitcom writer Paulie G. and Dan Bucatinsky ("Scandal," and Kudrow's producing partner) as Valerie's publicist.
There's no word yet on whether other actors from the first season, including Malin Akerman and Kellan Lutz, will make return appearances. "The Comeback" is scheduled to begin production later in May and air on HBO in fall 2014.
