'The Daily Show': Jon Stewart slams GOP for government shutdown - Watch

No one can make government dilemmas look more ridiculous than Jon Stewart. To kick off "The Daily Show's" "Rockin' Shutdown Eve" special, he skewered the GOP for what he described as driving a metaphoric car into oncoming traffic.

In the above video, he slams the GOP for causing the government to shutdown over the Affordable Care Act, "also known as Obamacare, also known as the end of America as we know it for reasons no one is able to clearly explain." As he points out, the ACA is a law, which means it's gone through the entire government system and been passed.

"Everything appears to have been done literally by the book. This bill is now a law, vetted by the very system these Republicans claim to love -- but to hear Republicans tell it, the whole thing could just be avoided if President Obama would just meet them halfway!" Stewart says. "The bill is a f***ing law! Are you familiar with how the word works?"

Then Stewart rolled out the best metaphor for the government shutdown we've heard yet: "Did you see the Giants game on Sunday? Okay: they lost 31 to 7. And you know what the Giants didn't say after that game? 'If you don't give us 25 more points by midnight on Monday, we are gonna shut down the NFL!'"

The GOP has come at Obama by complaining that he will negotiate with leaders in the Middle East, yet won't do the same with them. Stewart says that talking point is not doing the Republicans any favors.

"You're not helping yourself," he says. "If it turns out that President Barack Obama can make a deal with the most intransigent, hardline, unreasonable, totalitarian mullahs in the world, but not with Republicans, maybe he's not the problem."
