NBC's high-profile fall drama "The Event" is getting an A-list injection. Emmy and Tony winner Hal Holbrook just signed on for an arc in the thriller's freshman season.

The network says he'll play Dempsey, "a businessman with shadowy intentions" -- though we feel the name better lends itself to a whimsical butler.

He's not around to make friends, either. The 85-year-old actor will be in direct conflict with President Martinez ( Blair Underwood).

Halbrook, whose won four Emmys and been nominated for an additional six, got a major career boost in 2007 when he became the oldest actor to ever get an Oscar nomination, for his work on "Into The Wild."

His first scheduled appearance is in the October 11 episode.
