'The Fault in Our Stars' movie: Should Mae Whitman play Hazel Grace?

the-fault-in-our-stars.jpgIf you haven't read Time Magazine's No. 1 book of 2012, we strongly suggest you head to your nearest bookstore and pick up "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green right now. The beautifully crafted novel about teenagers falling in love and dealing with their mortality is soon going to be made into a film, and you'll definitely want to meet Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters before that happens.

The movie, which is written by "(500) Days of Summer" scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, is set to go into production this summer.

"If you read the screenplay you'll get the same feeling [as in the book]," says producer Marty Bowen in a new interview with Hollywood Crush. "I think it's one of the best screenplays I've ever read."

It's also John Green approved. "He's very involved. He's read every draft. We talk to him all the time," Bowen says. "He loves the script, feels that we've captured everything that we could have hoped to capture in the book, so I think fans will be really happy with it."

As for who will play the coveted lead roles, no decisions have been made yet. "It's tricky; you always want to do it with a director. We won't pick an actor without the director," says producer Wyck Godfrey. "The director really should be at the center of that, but the great news is we have our choice of the best actresses and actors of their generation."

That may include "Parenthood" and "Perks of Being a Wallflower" star Mae Whitman. Last year, Green tweeted that seeing Whitman cast as Hazel Grace would make him happy, and Whitman definitely shared the sentiment. We're totally endorsing her, too! Casting Augustus may prove particularly difficult, but one thing is for sure... we'll be in the theater on opening night.

Do you approve of Whitman as the frontrunner for the role? Who would be your ideal Augustus?
