The CW has four new dramas joining its lineup for the 2014-2015 season, and the network presented all of them -- "The Flash," "iZombie," "Jane the Virgin" and "The Messengers" -- at its upfronts in New York on Thursday (May 15).

Here are some first impressions of this strong, fascinating, new programs.

'The Flash'
Airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT this fall

Anticipation was high for this "Arrow" spinoff even before The CW had Stephen Amell onstage to introduce the trailer. And what a trailer it was! There's a strong setup, lots of humor and action, and some seriously strong acting -- especially from Grant Gustin and Tom Cavanaugh. The CW opened its entire presentation with the trailer and was rewarded by some of the most enthusiastic applause of the week.

'Jane the Virgin'
Airing Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT this fall

Based on the limited information pre-released on "Jane the Virgin," few could have had much in the way of expectations for this telenovela adaptation. That's what made the presentation so excellent -- the trailer starts off with a short and humorous scene in which a young Jane learns about virginity by way of a flower metaphor. Laughs and incredible charm from lead actress Gina Rodriguez look set to carry a light and fun drama.

The other two dramas are coming at midseason.

'The Messengers'

Tonally different from everything else on The CW -- with the possible exception of "Supernatural" at its most serious -- "The Messengers" looks to be the sort of show normally associated with cable. It is high concept to the extreme, following the story of five people killed by the energy of a mysterious object falling to Earth. When they are revived, each possesses strange abilities and an unexpected connection. If the entire show can follow through on the promise of the pilot, this could be amazing

'iZombie'

Another highly anticipated CW project, iZombie comes from Rob Thomas ("Veronica Mars") and stars Rose McIver as Liv, a reluctantly undead young woman who works in a morgue and eats brains with a side of noodles and hot sauce. The premise -- Liv has visions of how her snacks died and helps to solve murders -- is promising even if the trailer is a little lacking in energy.
