'The Glades': Murder is hot (and humid) on A&E

matt-passmore-the-glades.jpgA&E is taking another stab at original scripted programming -- emphasis on "stab."

The cable channel's new series "The Glades," which premieres at 10 p.m. ET Sunday (July 11), sets its crime-solving antics at the edge of the Florida Everglades. That's where Chicago cop Jim Longworth ( Matt Passmore, "McLeod's Daughters") winds up after being accused -- falsely! -- of sleeping with his captain's wife and being exiled from the department.

His skills, if not his prickly personality, come in handy in his new home of Palm Glade, Fla., whose sleepy exterior masks a rather high murder rate. The cases will drive the plot each week, but A&E promises that the show will also include healthy amounts of time away from the crime scene as Jim pursues a single mom and med student ( Kiele Sanchez, "Lost").

The show, which films on location in Florida and Georgia, also stars Michelle Hurd, Carlos Gomez, Jordan Wall and Uriah Shelton. Clifton Campbell, a veteran of "White Collar" and "Profiler," created the series.

A preview of "The Glades" is below. And if you'd like to follow along with Sunday's premiere, Barnes & Noble is offering the pilot script as a free e-book.
