'The Glades' Season 4: Kiele Sanchez 'really concerned' about resuming show

No one ever said life was easy in "The Glades."

Kiele Sanchez knows it anew, since she starts her fourth season of playing Callie Cargill -- nurse and long-distance love of Florida police detective Jim Longworth ( Matt Passmore) -- on the A&E mystery series Monday (May 27). Their relationship remains complicated by their respective locales and career obligations, but Sanchez appreciates the effort the couple has put into making things work.

"After we were done in Florida last season," Sanchez tells Zap2it, "I went back to my life in L.A., and I was really concerned with what Callie's answer was going to be (to Jim's season-ending marriage proposal). Even before they started writing this season, I had conversations with Clifton (Campbell, the show's creator and executive producer) about it.

"One of the things I love about Callie is her strength, and I think that is something a lot of single moms can relate to ... having to do whatever it takes to get food on the table for your children and provide for them and give them a better life. It was important to me that we didn't put out the message that a woman can't go after her dreams, or have to give that up for a guy."

Which, when the guy is the likable and clearly caring Jim, doesn't necessarily mean Callie is willing to give up on him. "When she went to Atlanta, it solved a lot of problems," Sanchez says. "It also caused her to be away from her son and the man she loves, so she sacrificed a lot. And to give all that up just because Jim proposed was a hard pill for me to swallow."

However, the actress adds that she recognizes the other side of the coin, too. "I also like the message that love should be valued, and a relationship should enhance your life. And I think that battle ended up in the first new episode."
