'The Goldbergs' video: Meet ABC's loud but loving family

The family at the center of ABC's new comedy "The Goldbergs" may seem at first blush like a typical, overly loud sitcom family. But they're not that far off from the real-life experience the show's creator had as a kid.

As you can see in this behind-the-scenes video -- which you can watch exclusively on Zap2it -- the actors playing the fictional Goldbergs are staying pretty faithful to creator Adam F. Goldberg's own family. "When I watched some of the footage that Adam took," star Wendi McLendon-Covey ("Bridesmaids") says, "I couldn't believe it myself. You couldn't write it -- no one would believe that people were this over the top."

Like the real Adam, his fictional counterpart ( Sean Giambrone) uses the family's video camera to record everything, much to everyone else's dismay. The show, which is set in the mid-1980s, feels a little bit like an update of "The Wonder Years," with grainy videotape replacing rose-colored memories of the '60s.

"The Goldbergs," which also stars Jeff Garlin, Hayley Orrantia, Troy Gentile and George Segal, premieres at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday (Sept. 24) on ABC.
