chinese-streaming-ban-big-bang-theory-good-wife-ncis.jpgChinese authorities have blocked access to four popular U.S. television shows in their country, reports the Associated Press.

A spokeswoman from Youku says it has received notification not to show comedy "The Big Bang Theory" or legal/crime dramas "The Good Wife," "NCIS" or "The Practice." She says the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television didn't give a reason for the order.

A senior manager at another site, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, confirms that its site received the same order, which also listed a Chinese slapstick miniseries made by another site, Sohu, as having to be removed.

Charles Zhang, Sohu CEO and founder, tells the AP, "I believe it's a stand-alone event and it does not represent the policy trend or change toward American TV shows," but he adds that he does not know why these four shows were targeted and he doesn't know if the ban is temporary or permanent.

There is a history of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television banning what it has deemed vulgar content, but there is no word about whether this order is due to that or some other reason.
