"The Hills" will return for a sixth season, and its spinoff "The City" will get a second season, reports Variety.

With the departure of Lauren Conrad in the fifth season, Kristin Cavallari has stepped up as the reality show's main protagonist.

Ratings for the fifth season weren't stellar. The September premiere drew 2.1 million viewers, much lower than previous season premieres.

Also in the cable television landscape, "On the Case With Paula Zahn" has been renewed for a second season. The 13 episodes this spring will continue the newsmagazine's focus on murder and mystery investigations.
