'The Hurt Locker's' Kathryn Bigelow takes HBO pilot

kathryn-bigelow-320.jpgOscar nominee Kathryn Bigelow will turn to the small screen for her next directing gig, an HBO pilot called "The Miraculous Year."

"The Hurt Locker" director will also be an executive producer of the project, a family drama that centers on a Broadway composer. Bigelow's hiring was first reported by The Wrap.

Oscar and Emmy nominee John Logan ("The Aviator," "Gladiator," "RKO 281") created the show and will also executive produce, along with Lydia Pilcher. Bigelow and Logan are long-time friends.

Bigelow has directed a handful of TV episodes in the past, including "Homicide" and "Karen Sisco," but "The Miraculous Year" will be her first pilot. It's also the first stab at series writing for Logan, whose play "Red" opens on Broadway in April.

Bigelow's next feature project is "Triple Frontier," an action film set in South America on which she's re-teaming with "Hurt Locker" writer Mark Boal.
