'The Killing': Get to know Billy Campbell's 'troubled' politician
One thing Billy Campbell will not tell you in the video above: How, exactly, his character in AMC's new series "The Killing" is connected to the titular event.
For that, you'll have to watch the show when it premieres on April 3. Right now, though, you can get a little insight from Campbell into his character, Seattle city councilman Darren Richmond in the clip. It's available only on Zap2it.
"Richmond is a troubled person, I think, to some extent," Campbell says. "He's a somewhat tragic person." The character is running for mayor of Seattle when the killing happens, and he'll become entwined in the case as the show goes on (and, we're guessing, as the murder becomes a political issue). He'll also see his beliefs challenged over the course of the season.
"The whole arc of the character is an idealist finding out that you can't get in the ring without, to some extent, liking the taste of blood," Campbell ("The 4400," "Once and Again") says. "It's about winning. If you don't win, you can't do any of the good things you thought you might."
You can see more of "The Killing" in a pair of previews Friday night (March 4) during AMC's "Walking Dead" marathon (they air at 9:30 p.m. and 12:45 a.m. ET). You can also become a fan of "The Killing" on Facebook and follow the show on Twitter for more news and clues leading up to the April 3 premiere.
