'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' trailer has finally arrived
There are a number of movies shaping up to be "the next 'Twilight'" after "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" hits theaters this Friday (Nov. 16). "The Hunger Games" already proved that it has some major staying power when it premiered earlier this year, and now "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" looks like it's going to be a force to be reckoned with as well.
Sony has released the first trailer for the new movie courtesy of MTV News, and it looks great. After reading the first book in Cassandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments" series, I was concerned about whether it could successfully make the jump to the big screen. Sure, we still have nine months to wait until "City of Bones" comes out on Aug. 23, 2013, but so far the film looks like it's hit all the right notes to be a success story.
"City of Bones" tells the story of a teenager named Clary Fray (Lily Collins) who discovers she is actually descendant from a race of half-angel demon slayers known as the Shadowhunters. Once she discovers her secret lineage, she teams up with a group of Shadowhunters (Jaime Campbell Bower, Kevin Zegers and Jemima West), who introduce her to the mysterious alternate New York known as Downworld. The flick also stars Lena Headey as Clary's mother, Jocelyn Fray, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the movie's central villain, Valentine Morgenstern.
